Pets & People

As well as commercial illustration work I accept custom commission portrait artwork of beloved pets and people.

From dog portraits, cat portraits, horse portraits to the furry, feathered and scaly animals in your life.
Please note I do not wish to draw working animals (gun dogs, hunting dogs etc).

I also love to draw portraits of people and over the years have practiced drawing from many different people.

Price is dependent on size, detail level, number of subjects and if you have a very short deadline.

My style is realistic yet illustrative, detailed graphite drawings. I use artists’ quality Faber-Castell pencils on acid-free Daler Rowney Bristol Board for a smooth finish.

How it works

1. To achieve the best outcome I will need a well lit (natural light is perfect), high resolution photo of the subject so that I can see all the details. I will base my work on the photo provided. It can be helpful to get extra pictures or even a video to ensure I capture the likeness and personality of the subject/s.

2. I will create a light pencil sketch outline which will be sent to you for initial approval of composition and likeness.

3. When the portrait is nearing completion you will be sent another scan in order to make any slight adjustments.

4. Once the portrait is complete I will clean the white paper for smudges and use a fixative spray. Your original artwork will be placed in to a cellophane sleeve and posted in a thick card mailer.

Additional Information

Terms and Conditions

I require a downpayment of 30% before beginning the portrait work. If you are not happy with the final artwork and I have been unable to improve it to your satisfaction then you don’t have to complete the purchase.

The portrait is considered commissioned once I’ve been given the instruction to start, received the photo reference and the downpayment.

Customers may use their artwork in any non-commercial way that they see fit, such as creating prints or copies, adding to items and displaying online as long as it is for personal use.

The artist retains full image rights on the portraits for reproduction and marketing purposes. If you reject the final portrait I am within my rights to still use the artwork I have created unless explicitly agreed otherwise prior to commission. In reality this means that any portrait may be used on my website and within marketing, animal portraits may be used as prints with discretion to cover costs in the instance of a rejected portrait or with permission for accepted portraits.

I will use a non-bend cardboard mailer to post artwork. Postage costs will be agreed based on location, artwork size and deadline required.
